What is a Mommy Makeover?
You’ve heard all about the mommy makeovers that women are having after pregnancy, right? So just what are they?
After a woman experiences the miracle of getting pregnant and giving birth, they may find that many changes occur, not only to themselves, but also to their bodies. They may find that while it takes some time for their bodies to heal and readjust, that their bodies have also gone through a possible myriad of changes. They may not be able to wear smaller clothing right after giving birth, and once their bodies have healed, many women find that they may not be able to get back into their pre-pregnancy wardrobe. Women may have a larger abdomen for a time, as well as larger breasts. And if they decide to breast-feed, they may find that their larger breasts after breast-feeding shrink down to a size that’s even smaller than their breasts were pre-pregnancy. And after months of endless exercise, new mothers may find permanent pockets of fat in places that weren’t there before she became a mother. Her body may have become completely different, a stranger’s body. Fortunately, there is a solution to this problem. It is called the mommy makeover.
The term mommy makeover over in the last few years has become a very widespread term on the Internet as well as on TV. You may have even wondered yourself, on occasion, exactly what it is. Even if you already knew that it was some form of plastic surgery, you may still have not known what it actually consists of. So, to put things in perspective, a mommy makeover is a term for a number of plastic surgery procedures that women have any time after giving birth. It may also apply to women who also elect to get mommy makeovers to counter the effects of age and extreme weight loss.
What Does a Mommy Makeover Consist of?
Mommy makeovers typically consist of 2 to 3 different types of plastic surgery procedures. The first procedure, for example, could be a tummy tuck or an abdominoplasty. The second procedure may involve either a breast augmentation or mammoplasty, a breast lift, or mastopexy, or both. The third and final procedure can also include liposuction, or in layman’s terms fat removal from various areas of a woman’s body.
The abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck surgery is targeted towards women with sagging or loose skin from childbirth or from extreme weight loss. According to Wikipedia, this cosmetic procedure entails the removal of fat and skin in order to slim down the abdominal area and make it firmer. When liposuction is combined with a tummy tuck the procedure is called a lipotuck.
With the mommy makeover, a couple of procedures for breast reshaping are available. They are the breast lift and the breast augmentation. With a breast lift, or mastopexy, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, it is a procedure where excess skin is also removed and tissue is tightened so that the shape of the breast can be modified and as a result raised. If you find that the size of your breasts have shrunk, you might be a good candidate for a breast augmentation or mammoplasty.
A breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure to improve the size, shape, or fullness of woman’s breasts. The procedure consists of a plastic surgeon placing breast implants filled with saline either under the chest muscle, or under the breast tissue in order to reshape the breasts. Breast augmentation surgeries used to be very controversial many years ago. Now they have become a very common procedure that is performed thousands of times a year on women in the US.
Liposuction is a cosmetic fat removal procedure that is referred to as lipoplasty, liposculpture suction, and other names. In this procedure, fat is broken up and sucked from the body. Some of the most common places that liposuction is used are: the abdomen, thighs, arms, neck, chin, the upper front and back of arms, the buttocks, calves, and back. The fat is sucked out of the body through a thin tube call the cannula, which is connected to a high-powered vacuum. According to medical news today, liposuction is one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed in the United States and the United Kingdom with more than 300,000 procedures given each year.
